América de Cali qualified for the quarterfinals of the BetPlay Cup 2020 on Wednesday, by beating Santa Fe in the penalty shootout, in which they won 3-4 after drawing 0-0 in 90 minutes of play.
America had a better image in the first half, as it had the best scoring options. Although the truth, it was a short game, very physical, shock. Both teams played it to win, but the truth was there were many delivery errors and the match was cut short by constant fouls, under the watchful eye of Diego Escalante’s regular refereeing.
At 25 minutes, Santa Fe was left without Fabián Sambueza, as he saw the red card when reacting violently to the provocations of the rivals.
The scarlet team bet on the speed of their attack men and complicated Santa Fe. In the second half, the cardinal stood up very well and controlled his rival, who did not have any possibilities. In the final minutes it was more the local and could win it. However, the result was 0-0 and the classification was decided from the white point.
