“This street is named after Álvaro Uribe, a former president of Colombia with 280 criminal investigations for homicide, genocide and fraud,” read the signs that fThey were posted by activist Beto Coral and other fellow nationals living in the United States.

It is worth remembering that in early October, Miami-Dade County, Florida, approved a proposal by Javier D. Souto, Colombian commissioner of the 10th district in Miami, to name ‘Álvaro Uribe Way’ to a street based on the alleged “contribution to the community and the defense of democratic principles that the former president has led.”

Faced with this, and as an act of opposition to the decision, Coral and several other Colombians posted the banners along the road. During the event, they carried posters with messages of support for the Supreme Court of Justice and others that point to the former president as the alleged perpetrator of crimes.

In an interview with the Cuarto de Hora portal, Beto Coral said that “a Peruvian would not have liked a street called Fujimori or a Cuban would not have liked a street called Fidel Castro, or an Argentine Videla, or a Chilean Pinochet (…) That person represents the same for Colombians, therefore we demonstrate by the disposition of the Miami city commissioners. “

The street now named after the former president of Colombia is located at SW 117th Avenue (between SW 40th Street ‘Bird Road’ and SW 24th Street ‘Coral Way’).
