On November 6, the fourth criminal judge of the Bogotá circuit decided to free former President Álvaro Uribe Vélez, in the middle of the investigation that is being carried out against him for alleged bribery of witnesses and procedural fraud.
However, in that decision the judge clarified that what the Supreme Court of Justice had advanced when it had the case against him, in which it had managed to carry out an investigation against the former president and to resolve his legal situation, yes it could be considered as an imputation.

For this reason, although after Uribe’s resignation to the Senate he lost jurisdiction and his case went to the Prosecutor’s Office, the process must continue in the accusing body at a stage after the imputation of charges and now it is up to that body to define accuses (and therefore calls him to trial) or not.
In that panorama, Senator Iván Cepeda, constituted in this case as Uribe’s victim, filed a request with the prosecutor Gabriel Jaimes, who is the one in charge of the investigation against the former president, so that he “prepares and presents before a competent judge the indictment” against former senator Uribe.

In his request, Cepeda annexed arguments, documents, list of witnesses and evidence that he considers should be taken into account by the Prosecutor’s Office to establish that Uribe “is the author of the crimes charged.”
For Cepeda, in the file against the ex-president -whose investigation had begun in the Court in 2018 and for which the high court had ordered the arrest of Uribe with a home security measure, until the case went to the Prosecutor’s Office and two judges released him-, has solid material evidence to accuse Uribe.

In the request he made to the Prosecutor’s Office, Cepeda also asked him to accept his request so that the indictment against Uribe “contains the requests made by the victim and the representation of the victim to face the trial stage.”
By last, He asked the prosecutor Gabriel Jaimes to provide him with information on the progress and judicial proceedings that he has done within this investigation, and the approximate date on which “he would be presenting the indictment.”
