The decision of the Supreme Court of Justice that the process of former president Álvaro Uribe continue by Law 906 of 2004 and not by Law 600 of 2000 was celebrated by various sectors of Uribe and respected by opponents.

In fact, the senator for the Polo Iván Cepeda, who is a civil party in the case for alleged manipulation of witnesses, affirmed that he respects and abides by this new ruling of the Supreme Court of Justice.

The left-wing congressman and political contradictor of Uribe warned, of course, that the decision of the high court does not mean that there is “freedom for the accused”, but that, for the moment, he must continue with his house arrest, which he complies with in his Hacienda of El Ubérrimo, in Córdoba.

“The next chapter of this process will be before the competent judge. We are ready for that new debate ”, affirmed Cepeda.

His colleague and partner Alexánder López limited himself to saying that he only hopes “that justice is respected in Colombia.”

For their part, several congressmen from the Democratic Center also spoke out yesterday on the matter and said that the high court had been correct in adopting this path for the ex-president’s process.

The fate of the process against former President Uribe has been a subject of controversy between different political sectors in recent years and months.

For the senator for the Democratic Center Gabriel Velasco, the Supreme Court of Justice ruled “in accordance with the law.”

The senator based his opinion on the fact that, according to what he said, several jurists, “prestigious and lenient,” had stated that the rule with which the process of the head of his party should follow was that of 2004 and not 2000.

“I think the Court does it well, and what we have always asked in all of President Uribe’s processes is that all guarantees be given,” Velasco said.

The valluno congressman explained that what uribismo has demanded is that “it be judged within an open, transparent and independent process, and that it be ruled based on the evidence and the truth established within the process, making a decision in law ”.

Senator María del Rosario Guerra also welcomed the decision and said that what they hope “is that the former president can defend himself in freedom and be given all the procedural guarantees.”

His partner, the House representative Margarita Restrepo, was sure that Uribe, whom he described as “the great Colombian”, will be able to “continue defending his good name in freedom.”

For her, the house arrest ordered by the Supreme Court of Justice when it had the process under its orbit “never” should have been imposed, since, according to the uribista congresswoman, the ex-president “has been a truly honorable and pristine man.”

“I have always trusted and will trust President Uribe, so I am sure that he will come out ahead of this process based on the insults of his political detractors, who only want to remove him from the political arena to end the country,” said the representative to the Antioquia Chamber.
