Samper and Serpa have upheld this idea, within the framework of their thesis on the murder of Álvaro Gómez Hurtado, according to which the assassination occurred as the result of a plot to carry out a coup with the purpose of removing then-President Samper from power (1994-1998).

The assassination of the conservative political leader was agitated again two weeks ago, when the JEP announced that it had received a letter from the Farc party in which that movement announced that he was going to acknowledge responsibility for the crime.

And the volume increased even more when Carlos Antonio Lozada, former member of the FARC guerrilla secretariat and then commander of the urban structure of that organization that commits crimes in Bogotá, said that he had transmitted the order given by Jorge Suárez, alias’ Mono Jojoy ‘, to the units under his charge in the capital.

In this context, the statements of Ernesto Samper and Serpa have been produced, before which Gómez Hurtado’s family issued a statement this Thursday in which it described the accusations as “infamous” that they point out to “buy the State crime thesis” and “seek a millionaire compensation from the Colombian State.”

Those statements by Samper and Serpa, whom the Gómez Hurtado family describes as “main suspects in his homicide”, have been produced, add the relatives, “with the sole purpose of delegitimizing our complaints and our unsuccessful search for the truth and individual criminal responsibility.”

Although they recall that economic reparation is a fundamental right, they warn that this “has never been the purpose that animates” their cause. “To insinuate otherwise, in a perverse way, is a re-victimization that damages Álvaro Gómez’s memory and outrages those of us who have been fighting for 25 years. so that their crime does not remain in impunity: that impunity that the true masterminds of the assassination seek so much, “adds the statement from the Gómez family.

They announce that any compensation derived from convictions in the framework of criminal action against the perpetrators and intellectuals will be destined as a donation to the Ombudsman’s Office for legal assistance through the public defender’s office ex officio in memory of citizens falsely accused in the framework of investigations carried out over the last 25 years.

There is no claim for direct reparation in progress against the Colombian State by the relatives of Álvaro Gómez Hurtado, a situation that the national press can validate in the systems of the judicial branch, ”says the statement in another of its sections. “If a monetary compensation of any kind were generated in any scenario in favor of Álvaro Gómez Hurtado’s relatives, it would have the same fate noted above of strengthening the public defender’s office by the Ombudsman.
