According to “El Tiempo”, the former liberal senator told the Special Jurisdiction for Peace that she spoke “two months ago” with who would be the murderer of the conservative leader, to convince him to speak with the special justice.
On August 20, 2020, the former liberal senator Piedad Córdoba received a couple at her home in Medellín who wanted to comment on a matter of the utmost importance and who contacted her through a friend, Héctor Moreno. Without knowing what it was about, and in his role as a journalist for the Telesur network, Córdoba accepted the appointment and heard from them an episode that they supposedly witnessed and that relates the FARC guerrilla, today demobilized, with the murder of the Conservative leader Álvaro Gómez Hurtado perpetrated on November 2, 1995.

This was reported by the former liberal senator to the Special Jurisdiction for Peace on March 23. The statement, published this Sunday by Time, she surrendered before Judge Julieta Lemaitre after the Chamber for the Acknowledgment of Truth, Responsibility and Determination of the Facts and Conducts of that special justice summoned her on February 9.
The man who visited Córdoba, whose identity she protected, making it clear that he does not know if they were their real names, told him that a former infiltrator in the Farc had commented on an episode that occurred in the “La Escalade” camp in the Yarí ( Meta), on November 2, 1995. Supposedly, after learning about Gómez’s murder, the guerrilla leader Víctor Julio Suárez Rojas, alias Jorge Briceño OR Monkey Jojoy, congratulated Julián Gallo, alias Carlos Antonio Lozada placeholder image, for the fact. And then they proceeded to inform the guerrilla chief Manuel Marulanda.

According to Time, Córdoba assured that, to his surprise by such revelation, the woman gave him a column by José Obdulio Gaviria in which he refers to a FARC book in which such a crime was recorded. One of the most relevant points of the former senator’s statement is that, according to the publication, she met with who would be Álvaro Gómez’s hitman: “I spoke with the guy who shot her, around two months ago (… ) I strongly insisted that he tell the truth, that he speak with the JEP, ”Córdoba said, quoted by the media.
According to the media, Córdoba told the JEP how the hitman told him that Carlos Antonio Lozada placeholder image supposedly wants him dead for this fact. In addition, the former senator said that this person was saved from the Mondoñedo massacre, perpetrated on September 7, 1996, in which six students of the District University were kidnapped, tortured and murdered, who were accused of being part of the Antonio Urbana Network. Nariño of the Farc, the structure that led Carlos Antonio Lozada placeholder image.
Córdoba told the JEP, according to the media, that she contacted this hit man through a mutual friend, very close to her, towards November of last. On the other hand, the former senator assured that she told what happened with the couple to former president Ernesto Samper, who later would have called former guerrilla chief Pablo Catatumbo to find out something about it. He also narrated that the couple supposedly knew that the Prosecutor’s Office was going to take measures against Samper, his former minister Horacio Serpa and against Ramiro Bejarano.

In addition, Córdoba spoke about an appointment that the Cuban ambassador in Colombia made to his house to speak with Pablo Catatumbo, after she made public demonstrations about this case in reference to the Farc. According to the publication Catatumbo, he was asking for evidence and, on the other hand, Córdoba said she felt surprised because Ivan Marquez and Jesus Santrich, with whom she was close, they never told her anything about it. And he pointed out several times that several people have commented to him that Carlos Antonio Lozada allegedly worked with the Military Forces.
As is known, on October 3, 2020, through a letter addressed to the JEP, the former FARC recognized the murder of Álvaro Gómez, as well as that of five other people. Julián Gallo, today demobilized and a congressman on behalf of the Comunes party, confessed to the crime in an interview with El Espectador days later: “The order was given by the secretariat and I received it from Jorge Briceño, which was the commander to whom I was taking orders. That order was transmitted through me and was executed by a command of four people from the Antonio Nariño Urban Network, ”he said.

Julián Gallo also explained to this newspaper his version of the Mondoñedo massacre on that occasion. According to him, two of the people who participated in the assassination of Gómez Hurtado died there. It is about Juan Carlos Urbano or bored, the leader of the operation against Gómez Hurtado, and Roque OR Little Monkey. “Some of those who participated in the murder of Gómez were killed by the police. I think they were able to establish the facts there, but since they were killed, the State had to keep quiet. Faced with the murder and the barbarism that they committed with their comrades, they tried to hide those facts and diverted attention, ”he said.
Since that version was known, the family of the conservative leader has rejected it and has sought that the case be taken up by the ordinary justice and not the JEP. “There is no indication that it was the guerrilla. The cynicism of our leaders and the instrumentalization of the Government is unlimited. The regime lent itself to that and has managed to wash Ernesto Samper’s face, ”Enrique Gómez Martínez, a lawyer and nephew of Gómez Hurtado, told this newspaper on November 26, 2020.

Mauricio Gómez, son of the conservative leader, has also rejected this thesis. “I have many questions about that. The first of them is that the FARC, when they assassinated my father, were off the map. At that time, in Colombia they were not talking but about the 8,000 Process. The FARC were not involved in anything. My father was waging a war against the illegitimate Samper regime, which he established with mob money. So, it seems super strange to me that, in the battle that my father was against Samper, the FARC came to kill him, as well as out of surprise and out of nowhere, ”he told this newspaper in 2020.
