Alexis Rolín will leave in the next few hours for Colombia to join Deportivo Independiente Medellín (DIM). According to sources from Rentistas confirmed to ESPN.com.uy, the 31-year-old defender will join the Colombian team as a loan.

Although the defender had renewed his contract with Rentistas until December 2021, the Uruguayan club does not intend to cut off a new opportunity to play abroad that is presented to the back row so this possibility will be accepted even if this implies a new drop in the squad led by Alejandro Cappuccio.

Los Bichos Colorados were one of the best Uruguayan teams in 2020, having an extraordinary collective performance that allowed them to win the Apertura Tournament. In the Annual Table they are second and are only surpassed, having played 22 dates, by Nacional. All this provoked interest from abroad for several of his footballers.

Thus, striker Cristian Olivera left for Almería from Spain, Robert Ergas joined Olimpia from Paraguay, Maximiliano Falcón currently shines in Colo Colo from Chile and Santiago Romero also traveled to the trans-Andean country a few weeks ago to join O’Higgins.

The confirmation that the Apertura conquered was not at all accidental was not only reflected in these transfers but also in the calls to the Uruguayan National Team: in November the teacher Óscar Tabárez summoned the goalkeeper Yonatan Irrazabal and the defender Rolín to face dates 3 and 4 of the CONMEBOL Qualifiers.

Rolín had arrived at Rentistas in January 2020 after not having a great passage through the University of Concepción de Chile. The defender was trained at Nacional, a club with which he debuted in the First Division in 2011; in 2012 he was transferred to Catania and later played for Boca Juniors and Olimpia.

Coach Cappuccio considers Rolín as the best performing defender in Uruguayan soccer during 2020 and has always highlighted his role in the dressing room; conversing with ESPN The technical director described the defender as a great positive leader and said that Rolín has shown him, in the short time they have had to work, the enormous class he has as a footballer.

It should be noted that Rentistas announced on December 31 that Cappuccio renewed his contract until December 2021, although as has happened with several footballers, if any other proposal that implies growth in the coach’s career arises, the possibility of leaving will be studied. Having won the Apertura tournament, the team from the Cerrito de la Victoria neighborhood made sure to be in the definition of the Uruguayan Championship once the Clausura Tournament (scheduled to be played between January and February).
