Atlético Nacional won 3-0 over Envigado, ensuring qualification for the next phase of Liga I-2021. At the end of the game, coach Alexandre Guimarães highlighted the general performance of his players and is now focusing his efforts on what is coming for the Copa Libertadores against Libertad, seeking a pass to the group stage of the continental tournament.
“The games have 95 minutes and we in the vast majority of the games have played quite well in different stages. After analyzing the numbers and taking into account the wide squad we have to be able to have that versatility from the midfield upwards and that is what has given us the points and what the team needs to establish itself, ”said the Brazilian.
Furthermore, “at home we win almost every game and that has also helped us to solidify the work we are doing. What we have won, we achieved well and now the most interesting thing is to go to the group stage of the Copa Libertadores and think about the ‘playoffs’ of the League. We do not do drama because of the games we lost, to play as we are doing we need to rotate and those who are outside need rhythm. It is fantastic what we are demonstrating ”.
Regarding what comes next week in Paraguay against Libertad, the strategist pointed out that “I am confident for the Copa Libertadores, I know that it is another dynamic, another tournament, but the team is entering a good moment. We had a magnificent month of March, we started April very well and now we must focus on Libertad, who is a difficult opponent. Now I am not thinking but about the Copa Libertadores, going to Asunción, getting a good result and then I will think about the payroll of Cali and against Patriotas ”.
Regarding the functioning of his team, Guimarães indicated that “we have a team that in three months have assimilated our idea very well, we have played many games well and this gives us the possibility of qualifying for two dates and being the highest-scoring team in the championship . We have a very large margin of growth, in three months of work, I take my hat off with this team ”.
Regarding the game of the Dutch Colombian Michael Chacón, Alexandre said that “we are happy with the performance of Michael (Chacón) and his teammates are also happy with him. We knew we had to give him time to adjust, he was going back to his country and this game was very good for him ”.
Finally, on the virtue to take advantage of the still ball with the goals of Bryan Rovira against Guaraní and Michael Chacón against Envigado, Guimarães stressed that “both in training have been very good, those who should charge are those who have the best performance in training , (Michael) Chacón scored a great goal, like (Bryan) Rovira did in Paraguay and that leaves us very satisfied ”.
