The attorney general, Fernando Carrillo, described as “irresponsible” the management of the border area with Peru and Brazil, which triggered the wave of infections in the Amazon.

The head of the Public Ministry called for actions by the national government so that in coordination with Brazil and Peru urgent measures are taken to face the wave of contagions in the department, which already exceeds 743 cases.

“Amazonas has the highest mortality rate in Colombia. The triple frontier where there are levels of irresponsibility to face the pandemic is notoriously influencing the multiplication of contagion, “said Carrillo.

In the department, the Office of the Attorney General is conducting a disciplinary investigation for irregularities in hiring to face the pandemic.

“We have started some investigations, but that is secondary. The most important thing is to save lives, it is to strengthen the health system and it is to avoid contagion ”, he added.

The prosecutor described the situation in the Amazonas prison as dramatic, where more than 80 prisoners are infected.

“The epidemiological fence no longer fits in prison, it is in the city, in the communities; This is a call for help that this contagion, which is the most serious in Colombia, be solved, “he warned.
