After a meeting with the Director of the AMB, Samuel Jaimes Botía, together with the Deputy Director of Transport of the Entity, Fabián Fontecha Angulo and the representatives of the drivers and owners of conventional collective transport, regarding the problem that affects the union, it was the decision to lift the strike.
What was agreed?
One of the main motivations for the day of unemployment is the issue of controlling piracy, because according to transporters, the Metropolitan Area of Bucaramanga, AMB, has not been strict in eradicating informality.
In this sense, Fabián Fontecha, AMB’s undersecretary of Transportation, mentioned that the perception is wrong, since the transit directions and secretariats of the area are doing work that has deserved effort, however it is evident that this modality has continued to grow.
There, it was agreed to create mobile patrols to control informal transport, which would start operating the following week.
On the other hand, the Undersecretary of Transportation mentioned that the creation of a registration platform for motorcyclists was socialized with the leaders of the transporters, focused on the mobility of the city and road safety.
“The idea is that they register their family nucleus there to effectively control the use of motorcycles in the area. It is important for us to identify who is driving a motorcycle, relevant statistics that will allow us to work more on the issue of road accidents ”.
Another concern is the so-called collective taxi. There, controls will be strengthened at the critical points for the provision of this informal service.
Finally, there was talk of restructuring some routes, which in the course of this week the AMB will study their viability.
“If we find that they are technically feasible, we will generate a pilot plan to verify that they effectively work, and that they provide a better service in terms of frequency, without generating parallelism,” added Fontecha.
So the day passed
From very early on, the road to the North of Bucaramanga registered partial blockages while a Tortuga Plan collapsed the road that connects Girón with Bucaramanga, reaching the Puente El Bueno.
Another group of transporters, made up of more than 50 vehicles, in a caravan, left after 7:40 in the morning from Floridablanca to Cabecera also to protest the lack of clear measures to combat informal transport.
At 8:30 in the morning, said group arrived with Plan Tortuga in Zapamanga, near the Fátima Interchange in Floridablanca.
After 9:30 in the morning, the caravan reached the La Flora Viaduct heading towards the headwaters.
With this day of protest, the drivers demanded more controls and better plans to combat piracy.
At 10:00 in the morning the protesters arrived at Parque San Pío where they made a new sit-in that caused trauma to the mobility of the sector.
After this stop, the caravan continued its route with Carrera 33 to go down the entire street 36. Later the mobilization arrived at Parque Santander.
Finally, the march reached the García Rovira Park where they held a new sit-in in front of the Bucaramanga Mayor’s Office.
In this place, they asked for a meeting with Mayor Juan Carlos Cárdenas because they assure that the president has not met with them and has not helped them resolve the requests that said union has been requesting since the beginning of the year.
“We need them to solve us, we are not producing much and we do not even have left for the maintenance of the vehicles. We prefer to leave these buses to the mayor and start doing something else, because that is not useful to us,” said one of those affected.
As the caravan advanced along the Bucaramanga tracks, the union of conventional transporters was joined by members of special transport.
This sector asks for reductions in insurance policies and taxes before the cessation of activities due to the pandemic, since most of the special transports mobilize students.
