Congress just confirmed President-elect Joe Biden’s victory over President Donald Trump in the Electoral College.

The Senate and House of Representatives rejected objections to discard Biden’s electoral votes in Georgia and Pennsylvania. Republicans also objected to electoral votes from Arizona, Nevada and Michigan, but the motions failed before they reached debate.

“The announcement of the status of the vote by the President of the Senate shall be considered a sufficient declaration of the persons elected President and Vice President of the United States, each for the period beginning on January 20, 2021, and shall be registered together with the list of votes in the newspapers of the Senate and the House of Representatives, “said Vice President Mike Pence after counting all the Electoral College votes.

The certification comes after pro-Trump agitators stormed the U.S. Capitol early Wednesday.

The joint session of Congress, which is normally a ceremonial step, was halted for several hours when the agitators stormed the building.

Proceedings resumed around 8 pm Miami time, when Pence, as president of the Senate, put the session of that chamber into operation again.

“Let’s get back to work,” Pence said.
