Caracol Noticias reported, on the night of January 20, the first setback in the administration of the newly elected Attorney General of the Nation, Margarita Cabello. According to the news, the secretary general of Cabello, Analorena Habib Cañizales, resigned after having served 24 hours in office.
As reported by the Colombian news outlet, the official took office before the new attorney on January 18, knowing that she has a list of charges in the entity for alleged irregularities in the contracting of works for three airports in the country, which would amount to the sum of $ 16,000 million, which means a very serious fault process by way of fraud.
The events occurred when Habib was the financial director of Aerocivil, around 2015 and have to do with problems in the study, design and maintenance of the Guaymaral, Florencia and San Vicente del Caguán airports. Along with the now former employee, Jaime Andrés Caicedo Berrio, advisor to the Airport Development Directorate, are also being investigated for the same case; Luisa Fernanda Mora Mora, head of the Legal Advisory Office, and Juan Pablo Restrepo Castrillón, Administrative director and secretary of the Committee of the Special Administrative Unit.
According to what was said by the Attorney General’s Office, Cabello came to find out about the investigation into his secretary general this afternoon and immediately asked him to resign. Although the process does not disqualify her from working for the entity, both the attorney and Habib agreed that it is unethical to perform administrative functions within the entity that is conducting an investigation of that caliber since 2019.
In addition to his position at Aerocivil, Habib Cañizales, a business administrator with a specialization in Finance and International Business, has a master’s degree in National Security and Defense, He has served as Head of Planning for the Ministries of Justice and Housing.
Along with her, other members of Cabello’s cabinet took office, such as Juan Sebastián Vega Rodríguez, who works as auxiliary attorney for Constitutional Affairs; Viviana Mercedes de Jesús Mora Verbel, in the position of Family Attorney; Javier Andrés García Ávila, as Private Secretary; and Ángela María Calderón Fernández, the new press officer.
At this time It is not known how the process against Habib is progressing and the other officials involved in the Civil Aeronautics irregularities.
The first woman to head the Attorney General’s Office
Margarita Cabello Blanco took office as Attorney General of the Nation on January 15. Cabello served as Minister of Justice and Law and left that portfolio to lead the Colombian Public Ministry, as the first woman in the entity that governs public officials and rulers of the country.

In her speech, Cabello, who is a lawyer, graduated from the Corporación Universitaria de la Costa, specialized in Family Law from the Universidad Autónoma de Bucaramanga and in Civil Procedural Law from the Externado and Cartagena universities assured that during his administration he will accompany the “public servants so that they give the results that the country so badly needs,” he said during the event that takes place this Friday morning at the Casa de Nariño.
“We will be allies of officials who want to hit the mark and tireless opponents of the corrupt and inefficient. Make no mistake about me. During my long public life I have met many people, but that knowledge does not mean complicity, that has to be very clear so that there are no surprises, “said Attorney Cabello.
Among the challenges that Cabello Blanco will assume when taking the reins of the Public Ministry, they are involved, among others, deal with the questions that were uncovered during 2020 related to his actions when he led the Ministry of Justice; in addition, of having alleged proximity to the Duque Government and the most powerful clans of Barranquilla and the Caribbean Coast of the country.
The former minister and also former magistrate of the Supreme Court of Justice Margarita Cabello Blanco, was elected on August 27 as the new Attorney General of the Nation, with 83 votes in the plenary session of the Senate.
