About 780 thousand Santander citizens will be vaccinated against COVID-19 in phases 1 and 2

According to Aguilar, President Iván Duque made official the number of doses of the vaccine that will reach Santander in the first and second phases of the National Vaccination Plan, which is scheduled to begin in February.

Thus, for Phase 1, which will consist of three stages and in which they will vaccinate health professionals, elementary and secondary school teachers and older adults with comorbidities, the department will have 542,483 doses, which corresponds to 271,241 vaccinated, Well, for it to be effective a person needs two doses.

For phase two, in which it is planned to vaccinate the population in risk occupations, institutional caregivers and the population between 16 and 59 years old, 1,021,833 doses are available. That is, in this phase, there will be 510,916 people vaccinated.

“We will jointly initiate the enrollment process guided by @MinSaludCol to begin as soon as possible the mass vaccination of the prioritized population such as health personnel on the front line and older adults with comorbidities,” Aguilar reported.

Therefore, 782,157 people from Santander will receive the vaccine, according to the number of doses published by the Duque government. This corresponds to about 37% of the total population of Santander.

According to the guidelines of the Ministry of Health, the idea is to vaccinate at least 70% of the population to achieve herd immunity. Which means that the nearly 2’090.854 inhabitants of Santander, to control the advance of the virus, should receive the biological 1 million 463 thousand people.

From this population that needs to be vaccinated to achieve herd immunity, the 66 thousand people who already suffered from the COVID-19 disease will be subtracted, so there will be 34,234,649 1 million 397 Santander citizens eligible to vaccinate against the new coronavirus.

So, the department already has supplies to vaccinate 782 thousand Santander residents of that million 300, that is, it has 55% of the vaccines it needs to meet its vaccination goal and thus achieve herd immunity.

At the moment it is unknown when the Vaccination Plan will begin in Santander, as well as the number of new doses that will arrive in order to expand the number of beneficiaries with the vaccine.

In addition, the vaccination protocols or which clinics, hospitals or health centers will apply the vaccine have not yet been discussed.
