Paulín Karine Díaz García, model and television presenter, was sentenced to 38 years in prison in 2017, for having participated in the kidnapping and murder of two men in Cali in 2011. However, the woman has always pleaded not guilty and is now asking for her sentence to be reviewed.

According to Ana Deisy García, mother of the model, during the process against her daughter an “unfair” sentence was reached, reason that motivates them to ask for it to be reviewed. “When my daughter was prosecuted, the media published many things, now I ask you to listen to me because she is subjected to an unjust sentence. I would like you to help me clarify your case, “he told the newspaper El Tiempo.

García also assured that the sentence of his daughter was carried out with false evidence and that he is not going to allow Paulín to continue losing his life in prison. “She has a girl who needs her. And we cannot allow him to continue losing his life in prison. I will not rest in saying that he is innocent “he said to the middle.

The relative of the model has maintained her defense, instead, she assured that she has been a victim of violence and armed conflict. According to Deisy García, the entire process against her daughter was a retaliation in which members of security agencies would be involved.

García assured that she denounced extortion and disappearances suffered by her husband, her brother and her cousin, which is why she has been protected by the State since 2013. The woman told the media that Javier Quezada Mosquera, her husband, disappeared on March 13, 2013, along with his brother José Ismael García. That same day his cousin, Edwin Pachajoa García, disappeared.

Ana Deisy García received protection as a witness, since she denounced the Gaula quadrant of the Police for the disappearance of her relatives. Paulín’s mother assured the media that “They called her and told her that they would give where it would hurt the most”, some time later they began to involve her daughter in the kidnapping and murder of two men.

The model’s mother denounces that the prosecutor who made the decision against her daughter has a subpoena for alleged manipulation of witnesses to involve another prosecutor as a participant in a kidnapping.

THE CONTEXT OF THE CASE

On December 30, 2011, the merchant Hugo López Moncayo was in a nightclub, together with the lawyer Milton Caro Villamil, apparently a woman approached them and convinced them to leave the establishment, according to one version of the case.

Since that night, the whereabouts of López or Caro have not been known. In the investigation compiled by the Prosecutor’s Office, there is the testimony of someone who assured that the men were killed and thrown into the Cauca River in sacks full of stones, information that was verified by the authorities. However, for the release of the merchant and the lawyer, three billion pesos were being requested.

In this case, two people were prosecuted and sentenced to 23 years in prison for complicity in crimes of kidnapping and robbery, the latter because one of the men was withdrawn nine million pesos from his bank account.

The case was reactivated on June 23, 2017, when the National Police arrested Paulín Díaz. According to information from the authorities, the model would be involved in the kidnapping and subsequent murder of the two men, in charge of intelligence and approach to the victims.

“The woman would be near one of the business tables where she would be practically watching over these people who were victims of kidnapping and, later, murdered,” said Colonel Henry Jiménez, deputy commander of the Cali Police at that time.

The involvement of Paulín Díaz in the case occurred after the capture of a woman who was also convicted of participating in the kidnapping. The woman confessed that she was a prepaid worker and that one of her clients, with whom she had confidence, offered her 50 million pesos to “get people out.”

The witness assured that her mission was to take López and Caro to a party and drug them. At the disco, according to the woman’s confession, the model Paulín Díaz would have participated in the planning and logistics of the kidnapping, which is why Díaz was captured and later sentenced to more than 30 years in prison, although she always pleaded not guilty.
