The Congress of the Republic again made the news for a reprehensible fact. On the night of this Monday, November 9, in the middle of the discussion on the reform of the electoral code, which is debated both in the Senate and in the Chamber, Senator Armando Benedetti he disrespected the representative Ángela María Robledo, whom he called “son of a bitch.”
During the session, which took place virtually, due to the situation caused by the pandemic, Benedetti forgot to silence his microphone and, apparently, began to send a voice note to someone to relate what was happening in the discussion about the reform. What was outraged was the phrase that, “open microphone”, the congressmen heard, in which he mentioned Juanita Goebertus, Angélica Lozano and Ángela Robledo.
“… Angelica, Goebertus and Angela Robledo’s motherfucker”was the phrase of Benedetti, who, from the interpretation given to the audio, seems to be imitating the tone and manner of speaking of the representative of Human Colombia.
After hearing the insult against Robledo, the congressmen ordered the senator of the ‘U’ party to turn off the microphone. His wide eyes and facial expression made it clear that Benedetti hadn’t realized he had left it open. However, the representative to the House did not make any claim.
Regarding the insult, about which media such as El Tiempo reported, the senator reported on the morning of this Tuesday, November 10, on his Twitter account, that the ‘madrazo’ had not been against Ángela Robledo, whom he says admire and respect.
Benedetti’s insult, which women’s defense organizations referred to as an “act of political violence”, It took place in the middle of a discussion on article 84 of the draft reform to the electoral code, which was approved, in the first debate, in Congress.
The reform consists in that the lists to aspire to positions of popular election must be equal, that is to say, be integrated 50% by women.
