The National Registry has everything ready for the launch of the new electronic card, which is scheduled for next December 1st.
The entity has been clear that the new document will be available only to citizens who wish to have it and that those who want to continue with the current ID may do so, since it will remain in force.
The purpose of the electronic card is to enter the era of digital identity and that citizens can contain, in a single document, their civil birth registration, medical history and driver’s license, for example.
EL TIEMPO learned that the design had already been selected and that the first package of electronic cards will contain 50,000 documents, which will be available to citizens who wish to obtain them from the beginning of December.

Regarding security, sources from the electoral body told this newspaper that it has the same rules as the 500-euro bill, which makes it, in the opinion of experts, “unforgeable.”
The idea is that President Iván Duque, the ICT Minister, Karen Abudinen, and the National Registrar, Alexánder Vega, will be at the launch of the new electronic card.
