With just eleven months in office, a proposal has already come out to present a process to recall Mayor William Dau.
This was revealed by the lawyer Rodolfo Díaz Wright, who assures that he presented the idea in an opinion column and that for this reason he has received the support of various sectors, with whom he is forming a committee called “Cartagena corrects” to promote the process.
Díaz, advisor in political campaign planning and political marketing, and who was mayor of Cartagena in 2003 after being appointed by decree, assures that he will lead this process because, in his view, Mayor Dau would not have complied with several of the proposed plans.
“This government promised to end corruption and poverty, and it has not delivered. Poverty is a verifiable fact and it is increasing every day. In addition, there are several processes in process where it has been shown that there is corruption, ”explains Díaz.
Likewise, it points out that the law establishes as a right that when citizens are dissatisfied, a revocation process can be opened.
“Citizens are dissatisfied because there are problems of insecurity, unhealthiness, again COVID-19 is on the rise, the road network is destroyed, there is no traffic control and the Mayor’s Office is a reality show where the mayor believes he is on a program where he thinks he is the star, and what he does is fight with officials. The city deserves a better destination, ”Díaz snapped.
He explained that the revocation process can only be presented after one year of the mayor’s term. Therefore, the committee that will organize everything would present the request in January to the Registrar’s Office.
In order for the request to be endorsed and the recall referendum to be held, the committee would have to collect at least 30,000 signatures from citizens who are not happy with Mayor Dau’s administration.
These signatures would have to be endorsed by the Registrar’s Office and then the voting process could be organized where Cartagena would indicate whether or not they agree with Dau continuing in the mandate.
The mayor responds
After learning about Díaz’s position, Mayor William Dau came to the fore and said that he doesn’t care about this.
“The miscreants are bleeding from the wound, they are asphyxiated because they have nothing. How so they want to make a recall because I have not ended poverty and corruption in Cartagena in just eleven months, they send shell. I don’t understand what is on their minds. I really don’t care about that, ”the mayor responded.
