The message had the pain of Ana Victoria Beltrán, the actress who represented Daniela Franco in ‘Parents and children’: “My heart is wrinkled by the sad news of your departure, you who were a father to me, you accompanied me in wonderful moments of my life and also in the sad ones were my support ”, wrote on his social networks.

Beltrán was under the direction of Roberto Reyes in the remembered Colombian television series, which was born in 1993 and ended in 2009. There were 3,600 episodes on the air.

Reyes trained several actors who today have a recognized career: Manolo Cardona, Lincoln Palomeque, Angelly Moncayo, Sebastián Martínez, Andrea and Sandra Guzmán, Diego Cadavid, Karoll Márquez, Gregorio Pernía and Orlando Lamboglia, among others. ‘Parents and children’ was his school. And Reyes was the person who realized who served the job and who did not.

That was one of the main talents of the late actor and director, who died last Saturday night due to heart problems.

He was born in Bucaramanga on January 25, 1949 and one of his first appearances was in ‘Vendaval’, in 1974. He was also part of ‘Three Devil’s Lawyers’,’ The Confessor ‘,’ Don Chinche ‘,’ The Story of Tita ‘,’ Guajira ‘,’ The mother ‘,’ Everyone wants with Marilyn ‘,’ Merlina, divine woman ‘and’ The commander ‘.

He was a screenwriter, actor and director of television, cinema and theater. He formed with the singer Mariluz, whom he married in 1980, one of the most stable marriages in the medium.

“What he created was a family,” says Héctor Forero, a librettist for ‘Padres e Niños’ and a close friend of Reyes. “With his wife and three children they made up a very stable home in an environment with a reputation for being disorganized in everything,” continues Forero, who earlier this year went to visit him at his farm, near Fusagasugá, where he was living.

“We talked a lot that day, I recorded a video for him and thanked him for believing in me. I was 22 years old and the now-defunct programmer Punch was looking for a librettist for ‘Musidramas’, which he directed. He saw it, corrected it and told me: ‘I’ll give you until Monday to bring it to me perfect.’ I sat down that same Friday, in two hours I fixed it and Roberto liked it. My career without their support would not be what it is, ”adds Forero, who lives in Mexico and has done projects for Televisa and TvAzteca.

Then she called him up for the ‘Parents and children’ scripts and they did projects together.
I think that what I admired the most was his ability to discover talents, that intuition to know who worked, something that has been lost “, He says. “And he was also one of the last directors who could be the full head on set. And when he had to make strong decisions, he did it ”, he adds.

In the recordings he demanded discipline, respect and that the actors arrive with the lyrics learned. The latter, and many years after having finished ‘Parents and children’, several of them are not forgotten.

Mariluz and Roberto Reyes had three children: Mariluz, Luis and Alejandro. The director always spoke well of his wife and his love for his partner. Said she was his syrup.

A few years ago he underwent heart surgery and lately he was in and out of the clinic to be treated.

For about 10 years, in addition, he dedicated himself to supporting the TRO channel, from his native Santander, and the film festival in this department. Although he left his land very young, he never forgot his roots.

And he had a great sense of humor. Even though he was furious and scolding you, he gave a sense of laughter at that side of him. Besides, he was a very cultured man, he read a lot ”, says Forero.

In the last talk they had, he told the librettist that he believed he was in his last moments. “But happy?” Forero asked him. “Yes, I’m happy, ”Reyes replied.
