Former President Juan Manuel Santos highlighted Joe Biden’s arrival at the White House and he was confident that after his election the political climate will change not only in the United States, but also in the countries of the region.

“He wants to be the president of all Americans, wants to unite the country and that is very important because Trump has been dividing the country by polarizing more, Dialogue is what allows consensus to be created and bridges built, and Biden’s attitude has always been to dialogue, ”Santos said.

The opinion of the former president was known within the framework of his intervention at the Hay Festival that takes place in Cartagena, where he recalled that the government of President Iván Duque broke with a long bipartisan political tradition on the part of Colombia in the face of the electoral process in the United States.

“Unfortunately in the last year the current Colombian government wanted to break it because it took sides or some of its officials took sides, but I think that with Biden’s victory that will be resolved. The former president added: “Biden believes in the multilateralism that Trump was destroying. Biden knows Latin America very well, our shortcomings and problems ”.

Santos stressed that as Vice President Biden supported the peace agreement reached with the FARC guerrillas and as a senator I supported the implementation of Plan Colombia.
