Bernardino Meleán Frontado, alias ‘Willy Meleán’, one of the most wanted criminals in the state of Zulia (Venezuela), who commits crimes in 8 cities in Colombia, was killed in a National Police operation, led by General Óscar Atehortúa.

As EL TIEMPO revealed since July 2, ‘Willy Meleán ‘led a gang of hitmen and extortionists, he executed several crimes in Colombia and he was facing another band of Venezuelans known as ‘Yeico Massacre’.

The operation was carried out in Sabana de Torres (Santander) by members of the Sijín de Bogotá and intelligence officials from Sipol. Two policemen were injured in the clashes with the criminals.
Defense Minister Carlos Holmes Trujillo, traveled to Bucaramanga since Friday.

Although the operation is kept secret, official sources confirmed the confrontation, after 6 months of monitoring and interceptions of the Venezuelan gangs.
Chain of homicides
The hitman murder in Barranquilla of alias El Kike in mid-January, the triple crime that was registered a month later in Ibagué and a double murder in July, in the capital of the country, were linked to the clashes between gangs of Venezuelans who entered the criminal map of the country.

There are already more than 12 deaths as a result of a vendetta between ‘Yeico Massacre’ and ‘the Melean’. The latter are a powerful structure with an epicenter in the state of Zulia, but with tentacles in at least three countries.
Tirso Melean Castellano, one of its leaders, ranked among the most wanted criminals in Zulia, was captured in February 2019, with weapons and ammunition, in McAllen, Texas. The subject was on trial in his country for murder and escape of prisoners.
But the gang’s boss, Willy Melean, known in the underworld for videotaping the executions he orders, was hiding on the border. between Colombia and Venezuela, where he was located this Friday by the Colombian Police.
One of those videos shows the cruel beheading of a young man who had entered to rob one of his properties and circulated through networks in 2019. Another records the execution of two people who had given information to the authorities about their leaders.

In the United States, Alexander Antonio Melean Castellano, the third of the five brothers, also fell, who was deported to Venezuela in February 2019. And in Santa Marta, Nelson Melean was assassinated in March 2012, who had survived five attacks in Venezuela.
Business in Colombia
EL TIEMPO had access to a reserved document in which intelligence from the Army and the Colombian Immigration Judicial Police warn about the landing of that gang in Colombia with three criminal objectives: to take over drug outlets in the main cities, to handle human trafficking into the prostitution business and going after her arch enemies.
The latter are part of the ‘Yeico Massacre’ gang, another criminal organization that was previously one of the tentacles of ‘Los Melean’, but which, after internal disputes over shipments of Colombian coca, declared war.
