Carla Betania García Díaz, a Venezuelan mother living in Colombia, warned about the situation of her minor son, who is being held or illegally hidden by a man whom he identified as William Caprio, also from that neighboring country.
García Díaz related that he met the young Venezuelan William Caprio in the municipality of Bello, who gained her trust and took care of the child while she worked. But when he pretended to return it, he moved from Bello to the municipality of Rionegro and has not been able to locate him.
According to the alert of the Personería de Medellín on this case, the woman of Venezuelan origin has been in this situation for five months and has sought support from the Police, the Prosecutor’s Office and the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare-ICBF, without receiving a positive response.
“He gave me some help and I trusted him. At first he behaved very well, but in May when I went to get my son to bring him here, they told me he had moved. He gave me an address from where he is living in Rionegro, but I have been with my partner many times and we cannot find his whereabouts“, the woman told EL TIEMPO.

According to the mother, she met the man in October 2019 and never had any complaints about him.
In addition, she added that Caprio told her that he was no longer in the country, a version that she discards because he does not have the minor’s documents, in addition to the fact that “the photos he has uploaded to social networks are with the furniture and all the things he had in Niquía “.
“From the photos he sends me of my son, he has it very well. She has always been aware of the child, but in reality I already want to have my child, can’t follow behind him. He tells me that in a message he announced that he was moving, but that is a pure lie, “said the mother.
Given this, The Personería of Medellín urgently requested the Antioquia Police, the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation and the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare-ICBF, activate the special search, care and comprehensive protection routes for a Venezuelan child separated from his mother.

William Yeffer Vivas Lloreda, a Medellín official, stated that he has already requested the Prosecutor’s Office to act in the face of the situation and help prosecute the man.
In turn, he remarked on the difficulties that Venezuelan migrants have in the city and the country.
“The first thing is to make a call to state entities, the Ministry of Education and health about the need and the obligation that assists us to guarantee to these people the right to education and access to health, but also a call to citizens to tolerate treatment with our Venezuelan brothers, “said Vivas Lloreda.
