The murder of Natalia Cortés, a 19-year-old student, shocked her relatives and the inhabitants of Santiago de Cali.
The crime was perpetrated in the Los Lagos neighborhood, east of the capital of Valle del Cauca, when a criminal, for stealing his briefcase, shot him in the head.
Mariluz Cortés, the girl’s mother, criticized the judicial system.
“Here they destroyed us all, they killed my only daughter, she was my baby. It seems to me the last straw because I fully identified the guy, I saw him and told the police that he was the culprit for shooting my girl, ”he said.
The designated criminal was captured by the Police, but released by a judge, since the terms of his detention expired.
“The only decision to be taken in the matter was that, after reviewing these material evidential elements and following the legal norms, decree the release due to expiration of terms,” said Nelson Triana, municipal criminal judge 30.
However, after his release, another togado issued an arrest warrant, which became effective hours later.
“He is a person who was captured and left at the disposal of the judicial authority. The investigation will be carried out with all the rigor, since the evidence and the testimony of the victim’s mother ratify it, ”said General Manuel Vásquez, commander of the Cali Metropolitan Police.
The challenge today is against criminals and the fight is to administer justice in the midst of virtuality.
“The issues we are working on in the justice reform is digital justice, which will not come overnight. We want it to be valid, we are working with email, ”said Wilson Ruiz, Minister of Justice.
Meanwhile, Natalia’s relatives hope that digital platforms will no longer be an impediment for the weight of the law to fall on her perpetrator.
