The mayor of Bogotá Claudia López announced through a press conference at the Secretariat for Economic Development that the schools will once again operate in person from next year. That is to say, from January the schools, according to their calendar, will have to get used to the new reality.
The president announced that they will have to work with all biosafety protocols despite the warnings of the teaching unions of the dangers of contagion. “Education and I say this with all affection to Fecode and the ADE in January the children return to schools yes or yes, there will be no more excuses. Bogotá is responsibly prepared to have all the safety standards to take care of all children.”
However, the Ministry of Education said that the schools that so decide and whose parents agree to send their children will return. This does not mean that everything will be as before, they will return with a certain capacity and under the biosecurity measures that are required.
What does the protocol say?
To start with the development of face-to-face moments at school, the following should be taken into account:
Students who attend school in person must be girls or boys over 2 years of age.
The teaching, administrative or support staff that attends the school must be adults between 18 and 59 years old who do not have underlying comorbidities that imply a high risk of Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) and COVID-19.
For schools with double shifts, the SED suggests that the moments of attendance initially do not exceed four (4) hours per shift. To the extent that epidemiological conditions allow it, the parameter of the number of hours spent in educational institutions may progressively increase. The schools with a single day may provide the educational service in the usual hours established in advance of the pandemic.
The school must consider the conditions of the environment in which the
school, in epidemiological terms and the possible agglomerations that may
derive from commercial activities.
If a case of COVID-19 occurs at school during the face-to-face scenario, the proper procedure must be ensured to contain the spread. For more information see the following Guidelines for attention to critical situations and pedagogical management for school coexistence for the gradual, progressive and safe reopening.
It is necessary to set up a Contingency Committee in each school, which aims to manage and control all the measures developed by the
educational institution to prevent the spread of COVID 19, before the reopening
gradual, progressive and safe.
