The taxi drivers’ strike was scheduled to November 30 and December 1, after leaders of several taxi associations had a meeting at the Movistar Arena, in Bogotá, and agreed to arrive in the capital of the country to demonstrate on those dates.

The great annoyance that drivers have, said CM &, are the bills they are processing in Congress to legalize transportation platforms that put more competition on them, they say, without equal conditions.

Hugo Ospina, one of the leaders of the taxi drivers’ union, assured in that medium that “there are no longer any passengers on the streets ”and that“ misery was distributed to those of Uber, Lyft and inDriver ”.

He also pointed out in Semana that President Iván Duque, who in the campaign had the support of the taxi union, has not complied with what he promised he would do when he became president.

“At this time, none of the campaign promises have been fulfilled. We respectfully ask the President of the Republic to say that he will not support these bills., since they go against the same pacts signed by Colombia before the UN, ”added Ospina.

How will the taxi drivers strike in Bogotá?

Ospina indicated in the magazine that all taxi drivers from different cities will arrive in the capital in their cars and with their families; In those same vehicles, the demonstrations will be held, in such a way that there will be no crowds, he says, taking into account the health emergency due to the coronavirus, which could reach another peak during November and December.

“There are going to be thousands and thousands of taxis in the capital of the Republic,” he said.

While they reach agreements, CM & added, taxi drivers will not continue with the process of scrapping old taxis.

The indigenous people also announced that by December there would be a new minga, with the taking of roads, in case there is no progress in the dialogues with the Government.
