#ChaoDuque, the referendum to revoke the president gains followers, already has a hashtag and is a trend

After Senator Roy Barreras registered, before the Registrar’s Office, the committee promoting the presidential recall referendum, which is made up of writers, journalists and experts in conflict resolution, Senator Gustavo Petro decided to support the measure and advocated for include other important points.

Petro proposed joining the initiative and including other aspects within the proposal, such as a minimum living income, the payroll subsidy for small and medium-sized urban and rural enterprises, the order to change the health and pension system, and the increase of the public education budget.

In response, Roy Barreras himself replied, through his social networks, that from this week they will sit down to work developing those ideas: “Alone we go for two million signatures. United we go for 10. We will see how much Uribe collects to revoke the Cortes, the JEP and peace. We will respond by revoking them ”,

According to the Roy Barreras proposal, which seeks to allow the revocation of the mandate of any president, if the Colombian population supports it. The revocation must be requested due to the lack of government management, deterioration of unemployment and extreme poverty indicators, public order crisis, citizen insecurity and lack of implementation in the peace agreement. If approved, the congressmen would have the possibility to request the revocation after two years of mandate have elapsed.

Although the referendum applies to the government of Iván Duque, the truth is that, although the signatures are collected, the times are very short for the presidential recall to be approved and it can be endorsed at the polls with the votes of Colombians.

However, after it became known that Roy Barreras’ project was ready, social networks were filled with supportive comments and a hashtag that is already a trend was created, #ChaoDuque, Through him, several citizens have left the reasons why it is time for the Colombian President to leave office.

They even revived the adaptation of the song Bella Chao, which was used by several protesters in the 2019 National Strike.
