Eta becomes a Category 1 hurricane

In the early morning of this holiday Monday, Eta became hurricane category 1, confirmed the Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies (Ideam).

The entity stated that the latest report from the National Hurricane Center indicates that the natural phenomenon advances towards the west with a speed of 19 km / h and generates maximum sustained winds of 120 km / h.

Due to the incidence of Eta, In the Caribbean Sea, cloud cover will prevail -for the next 48 hours- with rainfall, thunderstorms and winds above normal, especially in the archipelago area of ​​San Andrés, Providencia, Santa Catalina and the keys.

Yolanda González, director of Ideam, explained that Eta is located 85 kilometers from Serrana and 89 kilometers from Roncador.

He also indicated that the hurricane is located 163 kilometers from Serranilla while from San Andrés and Providencia it is 265 and 169 kilometers, respectively.

On the other hand, the Ideam warned that in the vicinity of the islands of San Andrés and Providencia, waves between 3.0 and 3.5 meters high could occur this Tuesday, as well as winds with intensity between 60 and 65 kilometers per hour.

For this reason, the entity recommended maintaining the alerts in the continental area, especially in areas where sudden floods, landslides and streams may occur.
