Junior thrashes Cúcuta and gets closer to qualifying

Cúcuta Deportivo started complicating Junior from Barranquilla at the Centenario stadium. After a week in which it lost its sporting recognition, Jorge Artigas’ team hoped to achieve a victory against Amaranto Perea’s team.

The first goal was from Junior. The visitors unbalanced the score at minute 16 through Carmelo Valencia, the attacker received a great assist from Sebastián Viera who confused the Cúcuta defense.

The striker went alone towards the goal defended by Juan Camilo Chaverra and finished over with a good definition. Seven minutes later, despite the dominance of the visitors, came the draw for Cúcuta. The play started on the left by Ariza who crossed to the point of maximum penalty and Michell Ramos beat Viera. Thus ended the first half.

Second time: Junior wins hierarchy

In the second half, Cúcuta was left with 10 men. Hanyer Mosquera saw the red card after pulling Carmelo Valencia’s shirt. I already had yellow. This complicated the locals who gave up space and began an ultra defensive work.

However, this was not enough to end the match with a draw. Perea’s team took possession of the ball and lost several scoring opportunities, which they achieved until the 84th minute when Cetré overtook the Barranquilleros.

Fuentes took a shot in the area after a good pass from Cárdenas, Chaverra gave a rebound that Edwin Cetré connected to mark the second touchdown of the game which was achieved after several attempts.

The last six minutes of the game were brilliant for the visitors. At minute 87, Miguel Ángel Borja scored a goal after a good collective move and at minute 92, Cetré celebrated double after beating Chaverra.

With this result, Junior climbed to sixth place with 26 points and is approaching the classification, while Cúcuta is in 18th place with 14 points. On the next day, Junior will receive Alianza in the Metropolitano and Cúcuta will visit Rionegro Eagles.
