The 2021 Tour de France, whose route was announced this Sunday by the organizers, will be decided in the Pyrenees, the privileged massif in this edition, which also includes a time trial on the eve of the arrival in Paris.
Be the second timed, since the cyclists will face a first in the fifth stage, which totals 52 kilometers in fight against the clock.
The edition also has a tough time to reach Tignes, in the Alps, and a double ascent of Mont Ventoux, although the “Giant of Provence” will not have the goal.
The edition will begin on June 26 in Brest, a city that has launched the race three times, a record only surpassed by Paris, with a bumpy stage and where the wind can play a role, which augurs that an “adventurer” will take over. the first yellow.
The next day, the stage will be marked by a double ascent to the British Wall, which will host the first of the three top goals of the edition, before giving way to two stages for sprinters, in which the wind can also change. the intended script.
The fifth day will be marked by 27 timed kilometers, before heading west, with two transition stages, the second, between Vierizon and Le Creusot of 248 kilometers, the longest in 20 years.
The next day the Alps will arrive, with a first aperitif stage before the end in Tignes, a station that could not be climbed in 2019 due to a hailstorm and which will also host the first day of rest.
The peloton will leave the high mountain bound for the Rdano Valley and, after a first day of transition, on the way to the Pyrenees, will find Mont Ventoux on their way in the eleventh stage.
The top will be climbed twice on two different slopes, but the goal is on its lap, in Malaucne.
Two new days promised to the “sprinters” will take the peloton to the Pyrenees, with a first day in which the cyclists will discover the untouched port of Saint-Louis. The next day, the race will arrive in Andorra, where the second day of rest will also take place.
A half-mountain day will open the door to the two great Pyrenean stages, the first with the ascent to Peyresourde, Val Louron and arrival at the port of Portet, and the second with an ascent to the Tourmalet before reaching the finish line in Luz Ardiden, which not promoted since 2011.
A transitional marathon heading north will take the squad to the Bordeaux vineyards, where on the eve of the arrival in Paris the second time trial, of 31 kilometers, will be disputed among its vines, which will end up shaping the general.
