During the monetary policy meeting, Juan José Echavarría, manager of the Banco de la República, communicated to the board of Transmitter his intention to retire from the post after completing the four-year period for which he was appointed at the end of 2016.

Current regulations provide for the possibility for the manager to present his name to opt for re-election for up to two additional terms, however, family reasons led to Echavarría to decline for that aspiration.
Juan José Echavarría from Antioquia assumed as general manager of the Banco de la República on February 3, 2017 in replacement of José Darío Uribe, although he had already had a first step by the Issuer in 2003, when he was elected co-director of the board of directors, a position he held until 2013.
Echavarría is an engineer from the Faculty of Mines of the National University of Medellín, with a master’s degree in economics from Harvard and Boston universities; in addition, he is a doctor in this discipline from the University of Oxford.

Among the merits that are recognized is that of having written extensively on issues related to monetary and exchange policy, the industrialization process, economic integration, and international trade.
During his tour of the academy, he taught macroeconomics, econometrics and international trade chairs at the universities of Oxford, Los Andes, Nacional, Externado de Colombia and Javeriana.
