The president made the invitation based on the increase in COVID-19 cases that is registered in Colombia and in several European countries. Despite this, ruled out that another general quarantine will be carried out in the country, for now.
According to Blu Radio, Iván Duque launched the message with an emphasis on the chambers of commerce of the different regions and said that it is necessary for “Colombia to get ahead in terms of Christmas shopping, of what has to do with electronic commerce, and that everything is done in the second half of November ”.
For the head of state, the country should aim for a calmer December and, he emphasized, avoid crowds at Christmas.
At the same time that he ruled out a new quarantine, Duque described a new indefinite compulsory isolation as a “social and economic suicide.”
“(The isolation) affected trade, the terms of trade, tourism, affected mobility, daily life, education, the way in which we interacted with families, and it gave us the biggest challenge we have seen as a society: understanding that there are no dilemmas here, ”said the president, quoted by that station.
It should be remembered that there is still a day shift without VAT in Colombia, which will take place next month and where a surge in sales is expected for commerce in general.
There will be no more quarantine in Bogotá this year
President Duque’s call comes a day after Mayor Claudia López practically ruled out a new quarantine in the capital, in the remainder of 2020.
“Right now Bogotá is in a relatively stable situation in handling the pandemic, as we had anticipated, it is possible that in November we will have a greater increase in cases. However, we do not foresee the risk of triggering the contagion, ”Claudia López said at a press conference this Thursday.
The president also said that the great bet of her administration is that in the reopening that took place since last August, When the peak of the pandemic passed, the same thing that happened in June when there was an increase in infections did not repeat itself.
