A traffic officer was recorded on video when he received a bribe from a young driver on a road in Cali.
In the recording, made from inside the car in which the offender was moving along with another person, it is observed when, initially, the agent tells the young man that he is going to impose a fine of 900,000 pesos, but he asks him to negotiate.
“I’m going to give him a 300 so he can go and take the course,” the official replied.
However, the driver insisted that they resolved the situation right there and, after asking the agent how much he should pay, he offered him 50,000 pesos because he was a student and had no more money.
“So let’s get him 50 for being a student,” replied the public servant, so the young man took the money and passed it to him.
Subsequently, the young man signed a document to the agent and, finally, he resumed the march together with the other young man who accompanied him and who later took out the cell phone that he had camouflaged and with which he recorded the scene.
After learning about the video, the Secretary of Mobility of Cali, Wílliam Vallejo, rejected the behavior adopted by the traffic agent number 469, who, “allegedly, agrees to receive money in exchange for an alleged favoring of a driver in a contravention process” .
“Said video, which came to the hands of the Secretariat, shows in flagrante delicto the conduct of this agent whom we will criminally denounce before the corresponding authorities. In that case, it will be transferred to the Prosecutor’s Office to proceed ”, he assured.
Likewise, he added that the case will also be brought to the attention of the different control bodies because it is a public servant “who, as the video reveals, acted in violation of the law.”
“I want to tell the public that we are not going to tolerate acts of corruption and that we strongly and categorically reject this type of action by any official of the entity,” he said.
He emphasized that more work is being done daily to avoid these situations and that a few will not be allowed to cloud the work of the Ministry of Mobility of the capital of Valle del Cauca.
“We invite you citizens to denounce any act of corruption and, most importantly, that, please, do not agree to hand over money because they would automatically be breaking the law and would be involved in a criminal offense anyway,” concluded the secretary.
The video was known this Thursday, October 29, 2020 through social networks.
