“Dad, I just got beaten up, I’m sick.” That was the call for help with which the doctor Álvaro Márquez was surprised at midnight on Friday, October 23. He saw a deformed person, his eyes were not visible.

Hours earlier, her 16-year-old son had attended a meeting near the La Calleja neighborhood. “My son told me that they had invited him to that meeting and that there were many minors.”
He says he let him go due to the state of despair that many young people have entered after being locked up due to the covid-19 pandemic. “I accept that, but the confinement is affecting young people a lot.”

It all started at that party. For some reason the attendees argued and everything went from words to blows. That was the first spark of what happened next.
Later, the young man decided to leave the apartment where he was heading to a friend’s house in the El Batán neighborhood, in the town of Suba, which is very close to Álvaro’s house.
But the adrenaline that still invaded the young people made a group of six request a private car service to get to a park and face the young man and his friends again.
And so it was, when they arrived at the sports area they were there, but before the large group, the victim’s friends fled and he was left alone and at the mercy of the attackers, who furiously beat him.

While that was happening, the driver of the private car was filming everything. “He says he heard the young people talk about what they were going to do and that was the reason why he decided to turn on his camera and capture the beating.” He was also the one who informed the police where all the teenagers had come from and where they were going.
The beating was huge. While the young man was lying on the ground, the attackers kicked him and punched him, and even attacked him with a bottle on his back.
Who finally notified the authorities was the doorman of the building that is in front of the park. “But when the police arrived, the young people had already fled,” said the father of the family.
Álvaro Márquez, who is an endocrinologist, says his son’s attackers had the nerve to return to the party after the attack.

“For this reason, and thanks to the driver and the police, I got to that place and was able to confront the young people while the attendants arrived.” They were all minors.
It was in that place that he saw the parents of some of the attackers. “I had contact with them, it was a hard moment, I told them: these are the consequences of your attack on my son, this has consequences, and just as you made the decision to go as men to attack him, as men you will have to answer for the injuries they inflicted on him. The level of violence is unjustifiable, it was a herd attacking its prey ”.

I am a doctor and the type of blows that my son suffered could have caused a brain hemorrhage, not only can there be a momentary loss of consciousness …
While that was happening, the young man was being treated at the Reina Sofía clinic. According to his father, it wasn’t just minor injuries. “I am a doctor and the type of blows that my son suffered could have caused a brain hemorrhage, not only could there be a momentary loss of consciousness, But the contusions can produce a hematoma and this death, a blow to the cervical spine, in the upper part, can cause damage to the bone marrow and the person can create a quadriplegic, a blow to the head with a blunt object can arrive to produce major injuries, then the vulnerability of the body gives for everything ”.
For Álvaro, the video shows that his son’s attackers wanted to cause as much damage as possible. “My son had the soles of his shoes marked on his face.”

But perhaps what most outraged this doctor was having listened to the audio of the video in which one of the young people said: “So they can see what we did to him.” That is why the doctor says that he can understand a fight between two groups of young people. “But I do not understand is the cruelty, the intention to harm and then the abandonment of a person in a state of disability.”
Until now, the schools where the young people study have not ruled on the fact. Of course, the institution of the attacked youth is already aware of the situation and its directors are trying to establish communication with the rector of the English School, with the idea that these types of situations will not occur again. From now on and with the full identification of the aggressors, an investigation is carried out by the Prosecutor’s Office.

“My son has facial bruises, on his skull, on his arms, on his back and a broken nose, but the worst damage is psychological. It is not easy to wake up one day and have my son tell me: ‘Dad, I’m deformed, unrecognizable, it may be that I’m going to stay like this”.
The family says they trust the law and know that in this case there will be justice. “Young people are valuing life in a different way. We have to be doing something wrong and we have to reflect ”, they say.
