Deportes Tolima, Atlético Nacional, Deportivo Cali, Millonarios and Atlético Junior are the teams that will be representing Colombia in the second phase of the South American Cup.
The posh box will be the first to participate in phase two of the contest, when next Tuesday they visit Unión La Calera; on Wednesday it will be Nacional’s turn, which will host River Plate from Uruguay at home, on the same day Millonarios and Cali will do it, in a duel between Colombians, while Junior will finish the first leg matches, on Thursday against Plaza Colonia.
Here at FUTBOLRED we review the present of the Colombian teams.
Sports Tolima
The current leader of the BetPlay League will be the first Colombian team to participate in the South American Cup. The Pijao team will travel to Chile to face Unión La Calera next Tuesday, after losing the undefeated in the local tournament against La Equidad by 1-2.
Those led by Hernán Torres are on a positive streak in the League, and will hope to do the same in international competition. Tolima will make his debut in the Suramericana, as he directly entered phase two of this tournament, after being one of the best losers in the qualifying phase of the Copa Libertadores.
National Athletic
The purslane team will meet next Wednesday with River Plate from Uruguay, after beating Huracán in the first phase of the Sudamericana. Juan Carlos Osorio’s team comes from losing in the League to the last of the table, Patriotas, so the spirits in the club are not in the best way, and before a foreign rival, they will seek to turn the page of this sporting setback .
Deportivo Cali
The only undefeated team that so far has the Colombian championship is Deportivo Cali. Alfredo Arias’s team arrives at the match against Millonarios for phase two of the South American Cup, after defeating Independiente Medellín as a visitor in a match full of emotions.
The sugar team hopes to capture their great performance in the League in the international tournament, so Millonarios will be a great challenge. The verdiblanco reaches this round of the Suramericana, after defeating River Plate from Paraguay.
Millionaires
With a totally different situation from that of Deportivo Cali; Millonarios, at home, receives the Verdiblanco team with the aim of taking center stage in the South American Cup, since the performance in the local championship has not been the best, and after drawing with Junior on date 16 of the BetPlay League, the chances of qualifying for the playoffs are more remote. Those led by Alberto Gamero eliminated Always Ready in the first round of this contest.
Junior
The last of the Colombian clubs to participate in the South American Cup will be Atlético Junior. The shark team reaches this second phase after being eliminated from the Copa Libertadores, and staying with the third box of group A.
The rojiblancos, with a roster full of big names, are called to be protagonists in this contest, when next Thursday they face Plaza Colonia in Uruguay. A good presentation in the Suramericana would save the bad season that the Barranquilla team has had in the local tournament.
