Five men, including a lawyer and another who was under house arrest, were massacred on Saturday afternoon in the San Jorge subregion, bordering the departments of Sucre and Córdoba.
The first versions of this fact indicate that it was apparently announced because the survivor, Carlos Arturo Valerio Betín, indigenous captain of the Enlatá village that belongs to the Toluviejo Colonial Reservation, had denounced an apparently illegal eviction procedure around the Cenagoso Amanzaguapo Complex, was committed. by heavily armed men who arrived in the area in a longboat from which they began firing. In the area there are about 200 indigenous and peasant dwellings,
In his complaint of October 15, the indigenous captain says that the secretary of the government of San Marcos that “usurped the functions when he carried out the police procedure of the Ciénaga Los Caracoles, whose complainant is Mr. Rafael Rivera, because that marsh belongs to the municipality of San Benito Abad (…), a criminal offense ”.
Senator Aída Avella denounced and made the event public, while reproaching the failure to take action to prevent it.
“Justice cannot ignore these serious facts. @IvanDuque stop the massacres. We had noticed the massacres, we said that the hired hitmen were already there. In Sucre they have to investigate the landowners who are claiming the vacant land. Very friends of the political class of the department. The desire to accumulate land leads them to answer hitmen, “he wrote.
For its part, the National Movement of Victims of State Crimes (Movice) demands protection for the life of Carlos Arturo Valerio, leader of the Zenú indigenous community, a survivor of this massacre, as well as all the people who are part of the council.
The Movice also notes that, according to the community, the perpetrators of the massacre were members of paramilitary groups that continue to take control of the territory, which they classify as the restructuring of paramilitarism in the region, hence they demand the dismantling of the paramilitaries in the regions of Colombia. Likewise, they demand respect for the life of the indigenous and peasant communities of Sucre, Córdoba and the Montes de María.
The victims. Until 3:30 in the afternoon yesterday, the Judicial Police authorities (Sijin and the Prosecutor’s Office) had identified three of the victims who are Lácides Cochero Alba, 47, a native of Ayapel (Córdoba), but residing in San Marcos and against whom there was an assurance measure in his place of residence imposed by the First Promiscuous Court of the Corozal Circuit for the theft of 350 cattle from the Polish farm, in addition, approximately two weeks ago the Army Gaula had apprehended him.
Another of the victims is Lácides’ brother-in-law named Darwin Rafael De Hoyos Madera, 42, a native of the municipality of San Marcos, and the lawyer Arquímedes Getulio Centanaro Carriazo, 50, also a native of San Marcos.
The corpses were scattered between the Los Caracoles farm and the banks of Caño Caimán, and they were transferred to Legal Medicine in Sincelejo.
Adil Meléndez, lawyer, human rights defender and member of the Movice, confirmed that this fact is associated with a land issue and is recorded just 5 days after the attack against the land defender of San Benito, Hernando Benítez León, whom only one of the 5 shots hit him in his right arm.
At the end of this edition, the authorities of both the Public Force and civilians of Sucre had not yet ruled on this massacre, but it was learned that in the case of the Police, Army and Prosecutor’s Office, from the early morning they left for the area that it is difficult to access.
