After the complaints by human rights defenders about the armed incursion of an illegal group in the Yurilla inspection, in the rural area of Puerto Leguízamo, in Putumayo, The National Army confirmed this Sunday the death of two people.

The complaint of the armed incursion was made by the Putumayo Human Rights Network, which pointed out that last Saturday, at around 7 p.m., a group of men entered this village that was left in the middle of the crossfire of criminal gangs fighting for control of the territory.
Wilmar Madroñero, a member of this network, pointed out that the community stated that one of the armed groups identified itself as members of the Sinaloa criminal gang.
“The community says shots were heard”said Madroñero, who asked the authorities for attention and forcefulness to the problems of violence that have been shaking the department.

This Sunday, after a security council headed by Buanerges Rosero, governor of Putumayo, a human rights commission traveled to the area to verify what happened in this territory, about 40 homes.
The Sixth Division of the National Army confirmed that two dead bodies were found in the area, a situation that is being addressed by a commission of the Prosecutor’s Office.
“The judicial authorities will determine, in their investigation process, the identities of the two people found dead, as well as what happened”, said the Sixth Division in a statement. Apparently, the dead were members of criminal gangs.
In the area, in addition, the military units found, approximately 400 meters from the place of the crimes, war material, communications, quartermaster and documents.

After the complaints of what happened in Yurilla, the Ombudsman’s Office recalled that it had already warned, in 2018 and at the beginning of 2020 through early warnings, about the risk situation in which the inhabitants of this inspection find themselves, in addition to the towns of Mecaya and Sencella, also in Puerto Leguízamo, due to the presence of armed groups, among them the dissidents of the Farc.
The agency pointed out that there are territorial disputes in the area between illegal armed groups linked to drug trafficking, so that some 2,300 people from these lands are at risk.

“The Office of the Ombudsman urged the Putumayo Government, Army and Police to adopt urgent and immediate actions to address the difficult humanitarian situation reported by residents of the Yurilla village, of the Leguizamo municipality”, spointed out the entity.
