In the classic of silence, in the most atypical classic, Real Madrid, which had just lost two games to minor rivals, re-emerged at the Camp Nou, where they won 1-3, in a match that was broken by a transformed penalty by Sergio Ramos, after the VAR intervention.
Now the one who suffers it is Barça, who have lost two league matches, and in both by two maximum penalties. That of this commitment was decisive, with 1-1 and the inertia of the Barcelona game, the referee, required by the VAR, pointed it out in a grab from Lenglet to Ramos. The Frenchman complained that the madridista had previously held him down.
Barça, who had not had two defeats since April 2016, felt the blow and no longer reacted. Real Madrid grew and sentenced the game in the 90th minute, in an action by Luka Modric. Since the 2015-16 season, the whites have not won at the Camp Nou.
It was a match with an atypical football. Two goals in the first eight minutes and a feeling of bewilderment, of vertical play. The party’s argument was not based on dominating the situation, but on taking advantage of the opponent’s error.
Ronald Koeman was brave in the lineup. He put two beardless (Pedri and Ansu Fati) in the starting team, but also Sergiño Dest, who made his debut on the right wing and was one of the best of Barça. Messi was not the reference, but Ansu; Coutinho accompanied in the midfielder and Griezmann watched him from the stands.
Real Madrid, without Modric, needed to assert itself and it took very little time to do so. Benzema, who was one of the best of his team, took advantage of a play into space and the entry between the two centrals of Fede Valverde to give a luxury assist, settled in the best way by the Uruguayan (0-1).
In five minutes, Zinedine Zidane’s men seemed to have dismounted Barça. Koeman’s team suffered above all because of the weak point that Busquets supposed and Pedri, more concerned with helping Dest in the coverage than showing what he was signed by Barça: his creativity and overflow.
But three minutes after Valverde opened the scoreboard, Messi and his connection with Jordi Alba appeared. The side entered like a knife on the left and his assistance was used by Ansu Fati.
Ansu beat Sergi Ramos in the race and placed his foot so that the ball did not have any connection point with Courtois, but with the net (1-1).
Benzema’s mobility was the main argument of the Madridistas, who had the French as a connection point with Vinicius on the left and with Asensio on the right. Casemiro swept everything he could and in defense, Nacho suffered on the right.
Messi had the 2-1 in a great action solved by Courtois and Real Madrid on 1-2 after a connection between Kroos and Benzema that Neto solved for Barça, but the rest was reached without shocks.
At most an action that the VAR verified in the Real Madrid area and the exuberance of Benzema and Ansu Fati. Barça finished more on goal and Real Madrid had more possession. Koeman’s men failed especially the bet on Pedri, who did not contribute what is expected in the first half.
On the brink of halftime, Nacho, injured, retired and a winger, Lucas Vázquez, entered to play as a right-handed winger. Barça came out better in the second half. He had the ball and played in the opposite field for many minutes.
Dest had more depth on the right and Ansu was brilliant. In the 52nd he finished crossed to the right of Courtois and in the 54th, an Ansu cross over Coutinho was not used by the Brazilian, only against the Madrid goalkeeper.
Barça played football and the chances, Real Madrid had not created a danger option … until in an isolated play, the VAR ended up having its leading role again.
An action by Lenglet and Sergio Ramos ended in a penalty. The Frenchman grabbed the Madrid center-back and the referee, at the request of the VAR, watched the play and signaled the penalty. The Barcelona player complained considering that Ramos had pushed him before.
The penalty was transformed by Ramos and Barça felt the blow (1-2, min. 63), so much so that they no longer recovered. It took Koeman to react in the changes and when he entered Trincao, Dembélé and Griezmann it was too late.
Real Madrid found themselves comfortable with Barça’s disorder, who claimed a penalty for an action by Varane. If the match was not decided before it was by Neto, who made three great saves in the 86th minute in actions of Kroos and Sergio Ramos.
Modric decided the victory of his team in a quality action. The 1-3 puts in question to the Barça, when it distilled good feelings; quite the opposite of Real Madrid, who arrived at the Camp Nou in need and left with a victory.
