Belgian cyclist Tim Wellens (Lotto-Soudal) won the fifth stage of the 75th edition of the Vuelta a Espaa, a day of half a mountain and 184.4 kilometers that took the peloton from Huesca to Sabinigo.
With a time of 4 hours, 19 minutes and 24 seconds, Wellens prevailed in the arrival at Sabinigo ahead of the French Guillaume Martin (Cofidis) and the Dutch Thymen Arensman (Sunweb), with whom he reached the finish line outstanding.
The three cyclists who played the victory were part of the numerous escape of the day, an adventure that took time to form and that despite the efforts of the peloton managed to open the race until the partial victory was disputed.
The Slovenian Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma), who donned the leader’s red jersey after achieving victory in the first stage, remained one more day at the head of the general individual classification of the Spanish round.
The Vuelta a Espaa will continue this Sunday with the dispute of its sixth stage, a day that has had to be remodeled due to the prohibition of the French state to allow the race to enter French territory and finish at the Tourmalet. Thus, the journey will be 146.4 kilometers long, starting in Biescas and ending in the mountain station of Aramn Formigal, the first category high end.
