Mauro Vegni, director of the Giro d’Italia, announced consequences after the cyclists were asked to start the nineteenth stage in Morbegno, as planned, and have to cut the route from 251 kilometers to 124.
“This is not over, when we get to Milan someone will pay. We do not accept the offer of the cyclists, we have suffered it. This happens because the cyclists have not shown up at the start. Someone will pay for it,” Vegni said in statements to the RAI.
For the director of Tour of Italy “what has happened in the stage overshadows the work” they are doing.
“Everyone knows that the Giro was run in October and today it was thirteen degrees. I heard many cyclists and many did not agree. You already know how this started. A few did not want to run and wanted to rest more,” he declared.
