In a surprising twist, the holding of the debate and the vote of the no-confidence motion on the Minister of Defense, Carlos Holmes Trujillo, in the Senate died this Thursday.

The debate on the appeal, requested by the senator for Polo Jorge Enrique Robledo and who was related to the United States mission in Colombia, It had been scheduled for this Thursday in the plenary session of the corporation.

However, a proposal by Uribe senator Ernesto Macías and 42 other senators disapproved of the motion of censure, which means that the instrument requested by Robledo will not be carried out.

The most important basis for this decision was that the Council of State decided on the procedure that the presence of this US mission should have and, with this, Robledo’s legal reasons for requesting censorship against the Minister fell.

Robledo insisted that Holmes Trujillo should have requested an endorsement from the Senate for this mission, but the high court validated the reasons of the National Government for not doing so, which, for the plenary session of the Senate, eliminated the reasons that motivated the motion of censure.

The fact was rejected by the opposition parties, which withdrew from the session amid allegations that the plenary was committing an irregularity. In the end, 58 senators voted to overturn the motion of censure and 1 to maintain it.
