As indicated by the judge during the hearing, the evidence gathered during the process revealed that the defendants, along with other people already convicted and others who, although fully identified, have not been linked to the case, “formed an association called ‘los Caleteros’ with the aim of acquiring and transporting narcotic material “.
This activity was carried out from Cali, where They had several buildings such as parking lots and vehicle repair shops that they used not only as a facade for the collection of drugs, but also for the adaptation of coves in motor vehicles where the substance was hidden. The drug, the judge said, was distributed nationally and transnationally in public service vehicles from Cali.

The official said that alias Jaime was one of the leaders of the organization, since he not only financed the illicit activity but was in charge of acquiring the drug in Cauca, and getting transporters willing to take the drug to its destinations, especially to countries in South America. like Ecuador and Chile.
The illegal activity of the 6 men was demonstrated, in large part, thanks to telephone interceptions carried out by the Police, which made it possible to show that by telephones they planned their criminal activities using encrypted language.
Thanks to this monitoring, it was possible to prove that these activities were not occasional but that drug trafficking was what the 6 men did on a daily basis. “This was not occasional, the defendants and another group of people had marijuana trafficking as their trade, as was found with the telephone lines and the seizure of the drug,” the judge said.
The sentence that will be announced by the judge in the first instance may be appealed to his superior.
** Although initially in this note it was said that the events corresponded to the case of the narcobus that crashed in Ecuador in August 2018 and in which 23 people died, this case is associated with a process for an event recorded on April 15, 2017 in which there were no deaths.
