Today a family is in mourning. This Sunday, October 18, a ten-year-old boy died after he and his family entered the water mirror that is inside this park, an activity that is prohibited.
The unfortunate fact was confirmed by the Cundinamarca Fire Department and the Cundinamarca Regional Autonomous Corporation (CAR).
Everything happened in the El Hato park, located in the municipality of Carmen de Carupa, where around noon, the disappearance of the child was reported. After the alarm, the emergency protocol was activated to search for it, but it had already submerged itself within this ecosystem.
The search lasted an hour amid the anguish of the family. He even had to call the Fire Department of the Simijaca municipality and the Police of that town to help with the search for the child.
There was a moment of hope when he was found with vital signs in the eastern part of the water mirror, so much so that he was transferred to the Habacuc Calderón hospital in the municipality of Carmen de Carupa but, hours later, his death was confirmed.
Luis Fernando Sanabria Martínez, general director of CAR Cundinamarca, along with the entire team of collaborators of the entity, regretted this sad event through a statement and work together with the competent authorities to clarify everything.
