French cyclist Julian Alaphilippe (Deceuninck-Quick Step), who suffered a fall in the course of the 104th edition of the Tour of Flanders, suffers fractures of the second and fourth metacarpal of his right hand, according to the Belgian squad.

Alaphilippe collided with one of the race bikes when he was prominent in the leading group 35 kilometers from the finish line. After going to the ground he had to leave and was transferred to Ronse hospital, where X-rays showed the aforementioned fractures in his right hand.

Alaphilippe, who was making his last appearance of the season in Flanders and whose teammate Yves Lampaert finished fifth, will be operated on Monday morning at the Herentals Clinic by Dr. De Schrijver.
