The mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López, responded to the Suba community about the violent day that was lived in the capital of the country on September 9 and 11.
During a Local Government Council in the town of Suba, the mayor placed special emphasis on security and coexistence issues that concern the community, and referred to the demonstrations that were held against police abuse after the murder of Javier Ordóñez at the hands of two police patrols.
“Be absolutely certain that we are not going to leave here without truth, justice and reparation for all victims (…) We are working with the Attorney General’s Office, the Prosecutor’s Office and in general, with the institutions, to be able to make a report of the truth about what happened “, said the president.
He also informed the locals that the CAIs destroyed in the area will be delivered in December.
The protests in Suba
On September 11, hundreds of citizens took to the streets to reject police abuse in cases such as that of the law student, Javier Ordóñez. One of the towns that participated was Suba and in which acts of violence such as the burning of some CAIs were recorded and the irregular response of some police officers who shot at the protesters.
In that locality the deaths of Julieth Ramírez, an 18-year-old girl, were presented, student of psychology and English; Germán Fuente, a 25-year-old young man at home; Fredy Mahecha, 20, and a woman in her 40s who died after being hit by a SITP bus that was stolen by vandals.
Authorities are still verifying which members of the public force acted irregularly that night by indiscriminately using their crew weapons.
The mayor’s visit to Suba
Regarding this meeting that was held in the Plaza Fundacional de Suba, the details of the recently approved and sanctioned Local Development Plan were presented, estimated at 314,350 million pesos, of which 157,175 correspond to Participatory Budgets
“Our purpose of government, open, transparent and participatory was serious. Never in the history of Bogotá, citizens had voted directly to select investment priorities “, stated the mayor.
Among the projects contemplated in the Local Development Plan are an Afro-Youth House of Culture, a District Attention Center for Social Inclusion, and it will also invest in programs to care for wildlife and increase the network of bicycle parks .
The Local Government Council was also an opportunity to talk about mobility. “The Metro is going to reach Suba, make no mistake about it. We are waiting for the consultancy to tell us where the route would be “, he assured.
Likewise, López visited the work of the Lombardy District College, which is a new educational institution that will benefit 520 students in a single day, its cost is estimated at 20,400 million pesos and will be in operation as of June 2021. This work is part of the goal of 35 new or restored schools reflected in the Development Plan and its construction is projected to finish in June 2021.
