(CNN) –– A man beheaded a high school teacher in a Paris suburb on Friday afternoon, then was shot to death by police, France’s counter-terrorism prosecutor told CNN.

The body of the victim was found in Éragny-sur-Oise, northwest of the French capital, the prosecution said.

The police have provided very few details about the attacker, the victim or the incident. The events are being investigated by a prosecutor from the country’s antiterrorism unit.

French President Emmanuel Macron will travel to the city following an emergency meeting at the Interior Ministry, the Elysee Palace told CNN.

Interior Minister Gerald Darmamin also spoke on Twitter about the events. He said that he was “kept informed directly” of the situation, “from the crisis room that (he) had opened, in liaison with the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister.”

Education Minister Jean-Michel Blanquer described the attack as a “despicable murder of one of his workers, a teacher.” He added that his thoughts were with the victim’s family.

Eva Tapiero in Paris and Martin Goillandeau in London contributed to this report.
