The Cundinamarca Court ruled a tutela in favor of several opposition senators who requested the opening of an incident of contempt against President Iván Duque for authorizing the reopening of the entry of US troops into Colombian territory.

In context:

A first sentence, which the president would not have complied with, ordered Iván Duque to “(…) suspend the legal effects of the authorization for any activity of that military brigade in the national territory, while the Senate of the Republic defines the previous point” .

According to the congressmen who adhered to the request for contempt, among them Iván Cepeda, Jorge Enrique Robledo and Ángela María Robledo, the Duque Government did not comply with that order “because the Minister of National Defense informed public opinion that the government National had authorized the activities of the United States Army Security Force Assistance Brigade, because the guardianship sentence had already been attended to ”.

This order, justified the House of Nariño, was given because 69 senators accepted in a letter the work of foreign forces. According to the Executive, the process in the Senate was thus considered passed. However, the congressmen who chartered stated that “the decision of that corporation cannot be replaced by the letters of some of its members.”

Consequently, the court granted Duque three days to rule on these events.
