Mayor Claudia López confirmed on Tuesday that the District Administration is working on the idea of changing the electric buses of the Integrated Public Transport System (SITP), but clarified that not a single peso of taxes will be spent. Bogotans on that idea.

The Bogota president spoke for the first time about the debate on the color change of the SITP buses from blue to green, as published by eltiempo.com and EL TIEMPO last Friday and Saturday. He did so at a press conference in which he spoke about the disarmament strategy in the city.
“No one is going to spend a penny of the Bogota tax on painting, zero pesos,” said López, who later cited that Santiago de Chile and Medellín have done so. He explained that those cities have differentiated these buses as “a way of social control and citizen culture.”
“Electric buses are marked precisely so that it is known that they have a different level of emissions, fleets are marked by the level of emissions, so that they are distinguished, so that citizens can also make a social control,” he insisted.

“Precisely because that fleet signaling was in transit, it was decided by emission level since February. What we would like is for those pioneers, 420 buses, I think they are, that already come electric, stay with the emission signaling,” he confirmed .
The president also assured that this could be done with an agreement between private parties and cited that Enel-Codensa could be interested in sponsoring those first electric buses, but that if it is not possible “there is no problem”, and reiterated: invest no weight in that. “
However, he clarified that, then, “the new fleet will be the one that comes with the emission signaling, which is foreseen in the TransMilenio manual since February. So there is no risk there.”
However, the president did not refer to the criticisms made of her for the relationship of the color green with the Alianza Verde party, to which she belongs.
The mayor also said that transforming public transportation from polluting buses to 100 percent clean, like electric buses, is going to take a decade.
