Does Uribe choose Petro as an opponent for the 2022 presidential elections? – Political Parties – Politics

The political and legal activity in recent days in Colombia gravitates, especially, around Álvaro Uribe Vélez. The decision of Judge 30 of guarantees, Clara Ximena Salcedo, to release him was celebrated by his followers as a great victory despite the fact that the trial against the leader of the Democratic Center continues.

Aware of this situation, Uribe took advantage of the fact that all the lights were pointing at him to talk about his case, but to throw out the line of the presidential campaign in which the successor of Iván Duque will be chosen: “Be careful with 2022,” Uribe warned about what which he called the “socialist project” in Colombia.

In the 12 minutes of his first intervention in freedom, the former president appealed to the fear that on previous occasions was so electorally profitable.

“We cannot allow narco-terrorism and the socialist project to nullify Colombian capacities,” he said.

“Let us advance in initiatives of social and economic progress that are the alternative to socialist risk, which intends to replicate the failure of Venezuela and Nicaragua, and which tends blankets of uncertainty over other countries in the region,” he argued.

For many, the warning has its own name: Gustavo Petro. Even the one who, very surely, will be one of the strongest candidates on the left seems to know that, who, as soon as Uribe was released, wrote: “Uribe is defeated at the polls, and by a society that knows that it is democracy ”.

As things are, did Uribe give the starting signal for the 2022 elections?

For different observers, the mentions of Uribe this Monday would be the beginning of the presidential bid, at least within Uribe.

And, to complement the political debate, there is a proposal for a referendum that contains several issues that have been in the purposes of a good part of society: solidarity income, the reduction of Congress and the repeal of the Special Jurisdiction for Peace (JEP) , among them.

The truth is that the electoral environment in Colombia is taking over the public agenda every day. In fact, a few days ago President Duque had also confessed that the subject was one to which he was going to dedicate more time from now on.

Indeed, by intervening in a virtual way at the Concordia Summit, the President referred to the risks he sees for the upcoming elections in some countries of the region and for Colombia in 2022.

“I will work day by day to recover the economy, but at the same time I will work hard so that Colombians can have the best political debate, which is transparent and accurate so that the decisions made in 2022 are not based on the polarization, neither in demagogy nor in populism, ”said Duque, in clear harmony with what his vice president had said weeks ago:

“We have to leave this well routed in these next 2 years because we do not know later in which hands this country will be, we hope that this country will not make bad decisions in political matters, but in two years we have to show a very profound change so that people have confidence in what a market economy model and a model of democracy mean, which is what must be sustained in Colombia at any cost, ”said Marta Lucía Ramírez, the ‘vice’.

They are three of the most representative leaders of an ideology that defends political theses that go against what Uribe called Castro-Chavism at one point and which he now simply calls socialism.

We have to leave this well routed in these next 2 years because we do not know later in which hands this country will be

A qualifier that has had an unprecedented and surprising echo even in the United States electoral campaign. And also in this case the name that emerges is that of Gustavo Petro.

“What happens there is that Joe Biden received the support of the socialist Gustavo Petro,” said Donald Trump. “That is not good, it is not good support,” Trump stressed, before recalling that the Colombian congressman was a member of the M-19 guerrilla.

“In my administration we will work together with our Colombian counterpart to stabilize the region,” Trump promised.

Thus, between fears and accusations, each day more frequently begins to emerge as the presidential campaign will be and who will be the protagonists.
