Santiago Arias suffered a very severe injury in the match between Colombia and Argentina, as he broke the ligaments in his left ankle and suffered a fibula fracture. The recovery time would be between six and seven months.
He spoke with Melissa Martínez, from Nexo Espn, about this process, who boarded him on the plane to talk about this process to come.
Of what has happened since the day of his injury, Arias said that from a medical point of view he has support to keep his leg rigid, because with the broken fibula he must take more care while the surgery arrives.
“Before surgery I have to keep my foot up because that helps circulation and I have a fairly large hematoma. After the surgery I will spend about 8 days in complete rest and then start mobility ”, he explained.
After a few days in Bogotá, Arias will travel to Lisbon as a stopover and then go to Madrid, where he will stay for the next few months.
“I am traveling with a physiotherapist from the National Team who will be in charge of me during the days that I am in Bogotá. Then on the trip to Lisbao another from the national team comes and in Madrid, where they are going to do the surgery, the medical team from Atlético de Madrid and a recuperator from Bayer Leverkusen would welcome me ”, he said.
Thus, Arias begins a new stage in his sports career that he must overcome to return to play with Bayer Leverkusen and with the Colombian National Team in 2021.
