Three men drowned when swimming in rivers in eastern Antioquia

This weekend in eastern Antioquia there were three deaths due to drowning in rivers of the municipalities of San Luis and San Carlos.

The man swam in the Sleepy River when he was swept away by the current and fell under a bridge, explained Sergeant Hugo Alonso Serna, commander of the San Luis Volunteer Fire Department in statements to El Colombiano.

His body was found four hours later after search efforts by rescue agencies, with support from the community.

In another event, which also occurred last Sunday, Two young Venezuelans, between the ages of 23 and 25, died in the Calderas river in the municipality of San Carlos.

According to the firefighter commander Arnoldo de Jesús Quintero, one of them apparently did not know how to swim well and got stuck in some stones, his companion who tried to get him out of the water also ended up drowning.

A third person got into the tributary to try to help them, but could do nothing. The firefighters managed to get him out of the water in time.

Quintero warned the local newspaper that these are not the only incidents recorded. Reckless bathers they have been injured by jumping from high places into rivers.

According to the fire commander, two people suffered fractures to both feet.
