Through a statement, the dissidence of ‘Iván Márquez’ and ‘Jesús Santrich’, the Second Marquetalia, confirmed the attribution made by former FARC chiefs about the assassination of Álvaro Gómez Hurtado.

According to the Second Marquetalia, the reasons for the Attorney General’s Office for declaring the murder of Gómez Hurtado in 2017 a crime against humanity have “no floor.” The foregoing, according to the FARC dissidence, because such murder was planned to claim the death of several peasants from Marquetalia, Tolima, within the framework of Operation Sovereignty, Plan Laso.
“The action against Álvaro Gómez Hurtado derived, solely and exclusively, from his condition as the architect of the instigation of the crimes committed by the regime against the Marquetalia peasants, from his persistent and dark persecution, from their deaths and mourning, as well as from the fratricidal confrontation that was unleashed and has not yet finished, ”said the armed dissidents.
He added that the decision on the assassination of the conservative politician was taken by the leadership of the then Farc-EP, since the seventh conference, held on May 4, 1982 in Meta.
“Expanding the arguments on the political and military reasons that led to making such a delicate determination, we have to, at least since 1961, to take a point of reference, Álvaro Gómez Hurtado – son of one of those responsible for the extermination of the gaitanistas, and he himself responsible for such crimes – from the Congress of the Republic, he was the first to promote the idea of the military liquidation of the peasants persecuted by the violence of the 1940s and 1950s, located in the Marquetalia region, in the south of the Tolima ”, explained the newly formed armed dissidence.
Likewise, he said that Gómez Hurtado was one of the staunchest enemies of the agrarian reform, promoted through the National Front and they blamed them for having stirred up “animosity against what he called the Independent Republics.”
The dissent, led by ‘Márquez’ and ‘Santrich’, emphasized that so far no one has apologized for the death of those peasants in Marquetalia, “for those victims of state terrorism of the 1960s, nor have they done so for the war that they unleashed and is not over yet ”.
“At last, revolutionary justice had been done for the death of so many peasants and innocent people sacrificed as a consequence of the war, encouraged especially by this dark character in the history of violence that Colombia suffers,” the group concluded, referring to Gómez Hurtado.
In recent days, the director of the Farc party, Rodrigo Londoño, and senator Julián Gallo, known as Carlos Lozada, blamed themselves for this assassination. However, the statement has been questioned because it is considered that the investigation carried out by the Prosecutor’s Office for 25 years could be affected.
Apparently, ‘Márquez’ and ‘Santrich’ threatened Londoño and Gallo to tell about this assassination so that they would rejoin the group. However, both decided to count the responsibility in this crime and reaffirmed to the dissidents the will to comply with the Peace Agreement.
